EBIC comments on the FAO Code of Conduct on Fertilizers

EBIC joined the voices commenting on the draft FAO Code of Conduct for the Use and Management of Fertilizers. FAO is the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.
EBIC welcomes the development of an International Code of Conduct for the Use and Management of Fertilizers by the FAO and considers that the Code covers an important topic that merits appropriate reflection, discussion and consultation. In that spirit, it is essential to broaden the scope of the Code to ensure that fertilizer use and management is placed in a holistic context of plant nutrition and soil fertility management. EBIC’s suggestions for improvement include:
  1. More attention to the role of complementary technologies
  2. A more holistic concept of plant nutrition and soil fertility management that goes beyond nutrient stewardship
  3. The role of integrated plant nutrition and soil fertility management in contribution to adaptation to climate change.
